The Association of Cities of the Raw Earth was founded in 2001 as an alliance among cities that recognise the value of earthen architecture and settlements as components of the landscape that characterise their territories, as the basis for a model of sustainable development.

The Association promotes the reuse of raw earth material in the contemporary construction industry, starting from the protection, recovery and reuse of traditional buildings in raw earth and promoting the use of natural materials in construction to support sustainable housing.

The Association adheres to the international document “Dwelling on earth, for the right to build with raw earth", promoted in 2010 by CRATerre, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture of Grenoble and the numerous institutions and personalities that promote the earthen architecture in the world.
